Stephen Hall was appointed CEO of the Society for Underwater Technology in April 2017 after over 26 years with the National Oceanography Centre and predecessor laboratories, where he had a career that ranged from early days as a tracer chemist undertaking fieldwork in the Southern Ocean, a four year stint as programme manager for NERC Autosub Science Missions, and a decade specialising in ocean policy and international affairs, including leading on tsunami warning for the UK and her overseas territories. Steve was head of the UK’s delegation to UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and was elected vice-chair of UNESCO IOC 2015-2017. He has a long standing interest in marine autonomous systems and sensors as a user, and from a policy and legal perspective.
